I wanna tell you a story you won't believe, it's really weird

I once met a co worker in his 30's that once told me he would entrust a big secret of his, and I was like oh okay, maybe it's something interesting, but man was i in for a weird one, he told me that according to him, the corporations, big brands and designers, oh, and artists, made "things" for him, those things were using his date of birth, name, place of birth and such on their products, songs and what not, he genuinely believed they even knew who he was, he claimed he knew celebrities and CEOs through friends but not himself and that's how he was able to request hidden messages in their stuff about him, he would say a color used in a music album was used because it was the color of the building where we used to work at, he said a famous actress dressed a certain way or promoted certain things because that's what the girl he liked liked. Once again, this was a guy in his 30's and you wouldn't believe how serious he took all his claims. What do you think was his situation that led him to believe that? I'm no psychologist although any regular folk would think he must have some sort of mental state or condition whatever it's called.

Sounds like someone on the schizophrenia spectrum. You described one sign of schizotypal personality disorder.

@CrazyMusicLover sounds interesting, hadn't heard of that condition before

@Andromedanian About a year ago I took time to learn something about personality disorders out of curiosity and it was one hell of interesting ride. Out of them all, I found schizotypal PD as the most curious one. What you described perfectly fits the description. These people find connections between things that can't be possibly related. They believe in telepathy, magic, conspiracies that logically make no sense, that they can control weather or behaviour of other people with their thoughts etc., yet they don't typically have psychosis as it is with schizophrenia. The symptoms they have are officially called "ideas of reference" and "magical thinking".

If you think about it, they are incredibly creative. I actually have a suspicion that many creative writers might be a little bit on the spectrum too.

@CrazyMusicLover Very interesting 🤔 thanks a lot for sharing I'm also interested in that type of topics although I'm nowhere near academic research or anything, I just Wikipedia most of my info, hehe

@Andromedanian Me neither. I just dive into a topic when it really interests me.

@CrazyMusicLover check out the books by Oliver Sacks. He was a neurologist and described some of the strangest mental disorders there are. For example look up a kind of hallucination called Charles Buffet Syndrome. It’s literally staggering how weird the human brain is.

@redredred Thank you! It sounds very interesting. Recently I heard about a case where a man's vision flipped upside down while he was driving. Some scary stuff..
