That's just it - you can't trust someone who's not what they seem to be.

...would anyone trust you?

Sometimes we have to give a little to get a little - through all our experiences we learn how to set the pace and learn how to trust. It is too easy sometimes to get the pace wrong or to get burnt....and then we want to shut up shop.

Nothing wrong with that. I can't say I know anyone I'm willing to trust knowing all of my secrets and I'm perfectly fine with that.

How would you know for sure if you don't allow them the chance to prove otherwise?

I'm like this too ...I'm cautious and guarded ....

@Kryptonite, exactly my problem. I don't know if someone is trustworthy unless I give them a chance and I can't seem to do this yet. I start everyone with negative trust, figuring they are lying or have a plan to hurt me or others
Just stay the way you are and let the needed and essential energies touch you deeply to help you grow further.
When the focus is well maintained negativity doesn't get the ground enough to seep in.

@Crusher, very interesting question, how would I know? I struggle with trust all around
