I have an on-and-off chat friend of some 30 years. I cannot count the number of times she has abruptly disappeared only to return a month, two months, a year later as if nothing had occurred. I have grown to accept it. I suspect she may be bi-polar and I only exist to her in one or the other swings. Latest example: I hadn't heard from her in nearly a decade despite an occasional reach out to nudge a response. When doing my annual holiday letter I decided, what the hey, I'll shoot a copy to her and if I get no response it will be time to finally delete her from my contact list. I got an immediate response about how lovely it was to hear from "her ghost"(!); that she had been thinking about me, and trying to find me. I responded immediately. . . .and have not gotten a single word since.

@JollyRoger Half a continent away. My wife and I did have a nice visit with her and her daughter the one time we met.

They have already showed you how they want and expect to be treated. Give them what they ask for
