What type of roommate moves in with you barely talks to you unless you mention food and tells you to knock on their bedroom door if you have something

That’s the best kind! I have a roommate like that too, only he never speaks at all. He pays his rent through Cashapp and we literally never see each other or speak at all.

Perhaps it is someone who sees "being roommates" as nothing more than a financial arrangement.

They're just a roomate so try not to take it personally. As long as they pay rent, all is cool. You don't need to be friends (I've been in a similar situation before. Yeah, it sucks and all because you think "how come we live together but this person is so detached?" but you remind yourself that you're not dating them and don't really neeed them, so...

i had a good friend move in to my flat and never speak to me and stay in his room with his gf, it was awful, i now relaise he wasnt a friend at all

As long as their rent gets paid on time and they clean up after themselves, I wouldn't care if I ever saw them.

If it's your home, the main lease/mortgage holder, I'd say very rude, and deserving of eviction.
