are your friends nice or mean ?

I had to let go of my friends. It took some time to realize they were actually mean. When they met my son, they acted like he was annoying. They told him lies to get out of talking to him and playing with him. I get not everyone is a kid person, but I thought that was mean and I'm not cool with people who aren't nice to my kid.

My friends are some of the most wondrous people in existence. I don't deserve a single one of them.

Probably a mix of both. I honestly think I'm usually nicer than my friends are. Like growing up, there were plenty of times I had to be the one to stop certain things from happening.

For [one random] example, I remember once when a weed dealer kept giving my homies a hard time. So my homies decided to rob him. I didn't know it was gonna be a robbery until we got to the dealers house so once I found out I told them all it wasn't even worth it. We ended up leaving.
Truth is that the dealer was somebody I was close friends with back in 5th & 6th grade. I used to hang out with him at his grandma's all the time. I stopped the robbery from happening because I had a different kind of understanding than my friends did.

They were kinda mad at first like, "fuck that, he deserves it" but I just had to tell 'em "I know his family.. I know how he grew up.. he doesn't have much in his life & I don't think it's right to take away the little bit he has. He's probably gonna end up homeless soon anyway... We should just leave him alone".

Less than a year later he actually did end up homeless. I felt bad he ended up that way but I felt glad that I didn't let my homies rob him that one night. Something told me that night that it would've pushed him to that edge a lot sooner.

I can think of all kinds of moments like that... I did a lot of reckless shit but I prevented a lot of shit too. I used to think I was too nice but it eventually led all the homies to respect my opinion & actually listen when I warn about something.

If they’re mean to you, then I don’t think that’s really a friend

My friends are awesome I don't curate shitty friends.

Some can be rude but they are all kind.

I jettisoned the fake "friends" a long time ago. Life is way too short to deliberately keep mean people around. 😬

They are a combination.

It's a mixed bag. Some are very nice, polite types, other may be brutally honest but none do mean things, I don't think they would be my friends if they did.

They’re very nice. I definitely had not nice friends when I was younger. I didn’t value kindness and thoughtfulness enough. It was even off-putting.

We were kinda mean kids at school/college. We’re nice now, but I think people remember what we used to be like.

Nice. I stopped a long time ago being friends with mean people. I will still be nice to them but they are now on my outer circle. I love them from afar
