What do you do with someone who won’t stop venting to you?

She literally won’t shut up about this relationship problem and is repeating herself over and over again and she ignores everything I say even if I tell her not to
Tatsumi · 31-35, M
State break. A concept that will serve you very well. Say something utterly ridiculous or humerous to throw her off her balance and "break" her bitching-mode "state", then she will be more likely to shift gears. Invaluable skill that I need to work more on.

I've found it's pretty difficult, though, because you have to wrestle with your ego to do it. And you have to not let their negativity pull you down.

@Tatsumi you think that works?
Ah :(

Find something you like that she finds boring and has nothing to do with her venting and talk over her about that subject every time she starts up.
ShaythePanTransMan · 22-25, T
@Doomflower yeah kinda. Well I don’t want her to stop venting exactly I just want her to realize that people can text about two different things at the same time. That’s the magic of paragraphs, isn’t it?
That’s true I feel like she would bring it back to herself though
Doomflower · 36-40, M
@ShaythePanTransMan I don't get how people are unable to talk about two things at once via text.
ShaythePanTransMan · 22-25, T
@Doomflower Yeah, it’s so rude and weird.

My best friends like this. So I eventually told her she's draining me and ignores my advice which gets annoying. She's calmed down since. Lay down your boundaries so you don't get burned out

@NickiHijab hmm that sounds like a good idea
It could be shock.

@butterflymind1 Yeah, she’s definitely in shock
