There is no coming back from that one...

I was over at a friends, just drinking a few beers in the garage with the garage door open.

His sister pulls up with her husband and kids.

I hadn't seen them in a few years. So as they got out of the car,I said "Hello, long time no see"..

They said hi and continued toward the front door.

She looked like she was about 5 months pregnant so i said..."Look at you, congratulations!"..

They replied with a "For what" at the same time.

I laughed a little and said.."For the baby in the oven"

They just kept on walking.
I thought to myself -- thats rude.
Soon as they got out of sight -- my buddy says..
"Shes not pregnant" and he laughed..

Doh'🤦

I hopped home immediately to take my foot out of my mouth.
One of the first things I learned as a child, never, never, never ask about or refer to a woman’s pregnancy. If it’s a thing, she’ll bring it up.

@bijouxbroussard I know I know... I learned the same thing. I dont know if it was the beer .. (<--thats just an excuse), but i just had an awkward moment which my head was not faster than my mouth..

How do I apologize from calling her fat?

I met my friend in summer after a long time and I couldn't not notice that she gained some weight but I heard too many stories like yours so I didn't touch that topic. And of course, at some point she brought up the topic of kids and I didn't even have to ask before she said that nothing happened and she wasn't even planning any kids so far. 😅

@CrazyMusicLover see now thats what i should have done. I thought i was gonna bring up a pleasant conversation but my foot went straight into my mouth.

@SledgeHammer 😅 I guess it can happen sometimes.

Well you know you're not the only who's been there not that it helps much. I think your duck and hide approach is best for a while.

@Gibbon Thats why its so hard for a face to face apology
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@SledgeHammer Yup. There's no approach that isn't down right awkward.

@SledgeHammer I probably put her husband in a horrible situation.... Hes gonna have to come up with something cleaver the next time she asks him...
"Does this dress make my butt look fat"
Lol
I had a teacher in high school I was certain was pregnant. Thankfully I was too scared to talk to people or I would have mortified her.
I’m sorry you are socially braver than I.
She’ll get over it.

@nonsensiclesnail im just gonna try to avoid crossing her path for a while.. as long as i can. Lol

Maybe she should take better care of herself and people wouldn't think that.
