Rents have gone up of course.However it is no worse than other Western country.Outside of London you can rent a house quite easily.City centre apartments can be more expensive than a house outside of city centres.
Landlords cannot put up rents too much because then no one can afford to pay that rent leaving property empty.It can be very difficult to evict bad tennants even ones that decide not to pay their rent.
