Have you known anyone who buys friendship...

they spend on others, loan money, do favours, etc. so that people would be around them.

I won't make a accusation against someone who has the means to treat good friends and share in excellent good fortune and affluence.

Often times the tide changes. A formerly generously years long friend in deed becomes a good friend in need.

You don't turn your back on those who once treated you well unless you're a user.

@SteelHands most people these days are users...

@Unlearn A wise man once said: " I would never join a club that would have me as one of its members. "

Not because they would hold me to an excessively high standard. Because it would be so difficult to find that many people with many and alike standards. Impossible, really.

Not personally, and not to that extent.
But I have heard of these.

@SW-User yeah but isn't it clear to the person that it's not real. That the person is surrounded by yes men. Yes men who are there only to benefit from this person's vulnerability...

@Unlearn I think they'd be in denial. Cognitive dissonance. Because their need to be wanted is so deep that they won't entertain the truth, even if they see it at some level.

@SW-User it's ruining that persons life, relationship and health. It's frustrating when someone is in denial and allergic to well meaning advice...

Yes - bosses at work. Standard practise for mgmt when trying to negotiate employment agreeements. Lots of carrot dangling.

@zonavar68 that's an expected behaviour in corporate world...

Do they hang the gifts and gestures over peoples heads?
Loneliness is a curse. remember that!
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@littlepuppywantanewlife Few feel lonely when surrounded with people. Then there are those who don't feel lonely even in solitude...
we all buy friendship.. in one form or nother. just saying how are you is a small payment.
and if ya dont belive. just dont talk to them or return the call and see how long the friendship last.. its the little things ya do that is the payment .

now where do you draw the line on this between genuine acts of friendship. helping somebody who is genuining in bother compared those who do it with an alterior motive too curry favour [unlearn]
I’ve know a few. The most recent one was a co worker who, though incredibly successful just feels unlovable. At this point he has no idea who his real friends are.
No but I empathise with such thoughts.
