leave social media for a more "rural", under-the-radar, life (such some of those people who were our schoolmates, and we don't find traces of them on social media now).

It means playing very little part in the rat race of life.
Life is frenetic and to be able to pull back from it and be as unobtrusive as possible can be blissful.
If necessary, go to work to earn enough to give you the basics of life and enjoy the calmness of an uncluttered world.
So many people have a multitude of "unnecessary stuff" then are forced to compete in the rat race to pay for it all.
Live frugally and be so much the happier for it.
