So... there's this guy I text, we're just becoming friends

Once I had to deinstall that app die to technical issues, and he texts me elsewhere, "is this the end of our friendship?"
The other day we were talking on the phone but the connection was bad, and I could barely hear anything. So I tell him I am going to hang up and he asks, "does this mean this is the end of our friendship?"
Why does he ask this?

People block / delete suddenly all the time without warning and it's usually because things are over.

The flip side of the coin is that he is a little insecure about things with you, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it means he's thinking about how is interaction with you is progressing.
