Can you make a sound, MORAL/ETHICAL argument for NOT being Vegan?

Even if you think you would or could never be a vegan...can you make an ethical argument against the idea that anyone who has the means to be vegan SHOULD be vegan?

very fiew people can deal with the cognitive dissonance of knowing that what they do is not right and still do it. they generally just desperatly look for arguments that support what they are presently doing. most people will only admit that veganism is the more moral choice once they become vegan. I am one of the rare people that can say that I eat meat and I am aware it would be more moral to not eat meat as I am aware that it is cruel and unnecessary to enslave and kill animals just to eat them. I am also aware that for the environment it would be better if humanity was vegan and there would be more food to go around so possibly less starving people. but i still eat meat. one day I will have to grow out of this bad habit and change my ways if I want to feel more peace within myself.
@reflectingmonkey

I'm in the same boat.
I'm not a vegan but i know i ought to be since i have the means to be.
I have some health issues that complicate that kind of diet but it is still possible for me.

@reflectingmonkey I too would like to eat less meat. I have no problem with animal products like milk and eggs when they done ethically.

I think it is natural for our species to eat some meat, but I would like to eat less and the meat I do eat is raised in a humane way

@Pikachu I kind of have the same issue. I am hypoglycemic and so I have to carefully calculate how much carbs I eat or else it affects me both physically and psychologically. its harder to do with a vegan diet because carbs and protein are often together in the same food, like in beans and lentils, so its hard to have a high protein-low carb diet, which is what I need. but I am certified as a nutrition consultant so I do know that its possible its just so much easier to calculate a portion of meat (no carb), a portion of veggies (low carb) and a calculated amount of high carb food.

@JimboSaturn the milk industry is generally quite unethical but for the rest I do agree that at least we should go for meats and milk products that come from farms that are more ethical in their treatment of animals.

@reflectingmonkey My wife and I are trying some lentil recipes, pretty good!

@reflectingmonkey I got some milk from an ethically produced farmer. It was good but expensive of course

@JimboSaturn I eat a lot of lentils, they are high in fiber so they don't jolt the blood glucose level too much and also personally I spend an unreasonable portion of my money on travelling (about half my salary) so eating lentils for lunch is part of various strategies I use to save money.

@reflectingmonkey I know eh? Beans, oatmeal, lentils; all so cheap!

@reflectingmonkey If you'd like, I can give you my list of vegan recipes in a google doc. (: You don't have to go vegan today, but incorporating some vegan meals into your diet now could really help get you started down the right path.

@BlueVeins I was vegetarian from 19 to 30 yrs old, I actually converted many people who stayed vegetarian all this time. I did sort of forget a lot of my vegetarian recipes so maybe some inspiration would be nice. I'm a pretty good cook and I do cook every summer at a vegan hippy festival, we alternate chefs so I do one day every 4 days or something. the whole even lasts one month but the main core of it is two weeks. I'm known for doing my chana massala with dry fruit chutney.

@BlueVeins thanks, not sure what "docs" are, I just click it and read it or is it something that I have to download. I'm a technology dinosaur 🙁
BlueVeins · 22-25
@reflectingmonkey Highlight the URL, copy it, paste it in the URL bar, and the doc will show up as if it were a website. You don't have to download it. (:
