Do you (if it applies to you) feel uncomfortable if or when the word 'coloured' is used to describe you?

I was talking to a cute guy today and now he's texting me. The last text was as followed

"random but like you're coloured...btw I'm sorry if that sounds bad but I genuinely don't know how to approach someone about their race without someone getting triggered but like are you Indian or?"

Lmao, the opening made me cringe hard. Just ask me what race I am instead of pretending it just incidentally came to mind "just pulling this one out of my hat in a entirely unmethodical manner but like.. You're not white. Why's that?"

On a real note though, there's nothing wrong with the question he was trying to ask but reading the word coloured still made me cringe hard😖 the only other person I've heard that word from is an 80 year old woman. You sir, are in your 20's. READ. A. BOOK.

Shame. Dude had a snake too.

As in an actual snake. Not his dick.

I'm asian, and when i was in US visiting a friend, yes some people did refer to me as coloured.
In my mind i imagined a colouring book for some reason. It was a nice image 😅

What made me most uncomfortable was being referred to as "yellow". So casually too, like "How do you find this fine land, being a yellow" 😑

But yes i see where you're coming from and i do feel it to be uncomfortable.
SW-User
@HijabaDabbaDoo Oh i should add, i do NOT think that it is okay to call anyone coloured. Just my mind is silly enough to imagine colouring books as a coping mechanism i guess.
Sorry you had to go through that.

@LordShadowfire Ah all good, Shadow. Maybe they were brought up that way, moulded by their community, their life surroundings. I try my best not to take it to heart :)
@SW-User lol I call my Asian friend yellow man all the time and so do his black friends. Technically u do have yellow undertones btw that's where it roots from
The whole text made me cringe. People who act as if it talking about race is taboo and so “wrong” are the ones I know believe racism no longer exist and sees everyone as the “same” or better yet “people” the “I don’t see color” trio. Makes my pussy dry af probably bad in bed too.

THANK YOU, NEXT
@Stark 🖤🖤🖤
@Stark that shit makes me roll my eyes so hard. Especially because they think they're being activists with these platitudes.

I’m Italian(American) and that made me uncomfortable for you. He must be pretty immature, not saying that it was intended to be offensive though.
@MellyMel22 I don’t always understand certain innuendo.

@JustGoneNow I think most of us are to certain things. Don’t blame yourself.

What kind of snake? What did he name it? What’s the habitat like? Yes, I have completely missed the point of this post.
@Straylight Happy Pride. I love you. 🖤

Lol, why are some people so concerned with asking “what are you?”

YOU’RE NOT WHITE, THAT CONFUSES ME
@SW-User compared to other questions I've had, this is tame and idc but I will definitely silently and sometimes not so silently judge you

As a white dude who mostly ends up with brown girls (latinas specifically), allow me to whitesplain exactly what this fellow cracker was thinking when he said this.

Hes just being overly cautious not to offend because he hears from society that he is super likely too. But the way to deal with that delima isn't to walk on eggshells; its to NOT walk on eggshells and fuck on anyone who tells you that you should.
Being afraid to offend to the degree that he is with all his caviets is not gonna get him any brown pu$$. He wants to bleach the sandbunnies but will fail bc he lacks the confidence to be like "hey what's your race".

There ate basically two kinds of white people in today's time: 1.motherfuckets who see "poc" getting offended at things they can't understand, adhd react to it by trying extra hard to be inoffensive, and 2. White people who see see people fetting offended and think "yeah cool idgaf if i offend you go on somewhere and get the duck out my face". There is a third type of whiteh, but we don't have time for that.

What's funny af is that this dude is like SUPER fucking trying to not trigger you, and what he said still caused you to feel weird and make a post about it on the internet bc someone used an outdated racial tetm. Its why i personality don't care if what i say did offends people. If someone wants to understand my intentions, they will shortly
If they don't, i won't change how i talk for them. I will be like "aye whuddup momi lets mature mixed babies" and if she wants to have fun cool; if she didn't, then let her post shit the horrible expierience on the internet. Neither stops me from living in norvana and making motherfucking money on some real pimp shit.

Did you tell him that “coloured” is cringy?
@JustNik yup
Reject · 26-30, M
I’ve heard that term used for me. I’ve been called all kinds of things related to my race growing up as the only black kid in an entirely white town. I’m so used to it, it doesn’t bother me.
Reject · 26-30, M
@HijabaDabbaDoo I don’t think I ever challenged it, but I did feel it was weird at first. So many people so fixated on the way I looked was strange. When I got older I decided I didn’t want to worry about such things.
@Reject I get it. It's self preservative. But I also realise that it still comes up in any meaningful connections I make so I can't ignore it but I'm definitely more selective now than I was when I was younger.
Reject · 26-30, M
@HijabaDabbaDoo Yeah! Self preservative is one way to look at it, but I also just don’t want to make things worse than they already are. If I took my time to be offended by it, I would be. I don’t think the answer to ignorance is hostility. That just makes everyone feel bad.

I'm so white
I should be called transparent

@JustGoneNow love rainbows
@SW-User me too.

Are you Indian?
No problem

Like you're coloured
Are you always this observant captain obvious? 🤔
AuRevoir · 36-40, M
Shame as in you've given up on them already?? 👀🥤
@AuRevoir I haven't.
However, my tolerance to 'educate' people isn't there anymore. I've done enough of it while growing up. I'm not putting that pressure on myself anymore.
I'll answer questions if or when I'm getting to know someone but if I notice a pattern, you can go educate yourself. I'm not getting paid to babysit.
AuRevoir · 36-40, M
@HijabaDabbaDoo 🤔 Dude needs to make a recovery real quick or the only friend he's going to have tonight is his snake.......... 👀🥤 On a positive note he does seem like he's interested in you, even if he's not smooth at going about it.........
SW-User
If a dude says that in this day and age .. He is ignorant! “Colored”?? .. that instinct! That you got, when you first heard that word! Cringed! I’m almost the same colored skin you are. When they separate you like that, means they think you are different then them!
@HijabaDabbaDoo That is so tone deaf. I’m sorry. 🖤
Contrary to your experience, I am considered gora some time but hn may Desi 🤣
My dad was like that.....

My wife wasn't amused at all when he described her as an "Oriental".
