I've made it with and without garlic and cumin, but my favorite is to chop up the avocadoes in rather large chunks, add a medium hot pico de gallo, and squeeze fresh limes on it.

I don't much care for the creamy guac.

You can use both, but they have to be just a hint for quac. The cumin just enough to give some warmth, the garlic just enough to give that umami.

A little bit of garlic a little bit of herb and of course lemon juice to keep it fresh and green I do not really care for Brown guacamole

If you roast your garlic first, it adds another dimension to it.
