To Tip or not to Tip, that is the question.

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/may/30/pizza-express-waiting-staff-outraged-as-share-of-tips-is-cut

Front or house staff are annoyed they have to share tips.
Having previously worked in restaurants in the past; I fail to see why someone carrying the meal to the table expects or gets the tip & not the poor sod who's made the meal in 100+ degree heat in a dangerous kitchen.

I think 'ALL' staff should share the tips with the exception of management/supervisors.

I always deduct the standard service charge - I’ll only tip if the service has been friendly & efficient, not because some corporate giant has added it to my bill

@BalmyNites Me too. - I've never got "tipping" anyway. How many regular tippers have done so at McDonalds? Burger King? It's still a restaurant & the servers are on the lowest wage possible.

@L33TH4X0R Totally - & it’s the same across the board - you don’t tip the postman, so would you feel obliged to tip your hairdresser? It’s crazy

Last Christmas, a young girl serving me was close to tears as she felt guilty for having to leave her little boy on Christmas Eve to go to work, she told me her man had recently lost his job & she’d taken on extra hours. She was a pleasure to meet, I gave her a £10 ‘tip’ (for her little boy). I think each occasion should be judged on its own merit ❤️

@BalmyNites 100% Balmy I couldn't agree more.
But the whole sector needs a complete overhall & we need to get behind the low paid workers otherwise things will not change for these essential members of society.

@L33TH4X0R I so agree, there is too much inequality & unfairness. You’d be surprised at how many people feel the need to conform though, the whole system needs dragging into contemporary life

@BalmyNites I was a builder all my life and except for once I never ever got a tip, the once was we worked late to finish off tiling a swimming pool so they could use it that weekend....

@Platinum See that’s where I do tend to tip, if someone has provided a good service to my home, a job well done, gone the extra mile etc 😊 Oh & I always serve the builders bacon rolls in the morning & the kettle boiling throughout the day - they tend to work better then 😁

Agree, but I never ever expected a tip....but in restaurants staff are not paid well and need tips to make up their money, but it's totally wrong as it just puts the price of food more expensive....@BalmyNites
BalmyNites · F
@Platinum You could say that, but why must the customer make up the shortfall in wages? As you say, it’s wrong & eating out is already very expensive - more so since the lockdown lifting, as restaurateurs strive to recoup losses 😏

@BalmyNites prices have gone up....the government supported them but they are greedy...
