These modern grocery prices make me thankful I grew up poor

Because I know how to make delicious dinners from practically nothing.

We had leftover spaghetti noodles.

I took inventory in the kitchen and found that pretty much all we had was butter, ricotta, veg broth, garlic ginger paste, a bag of onions, some mushrooms, and a cabinet full of seasonings.

So I caramelized the onions and mushrooms in butter, added garlic ginger paste, some veg broth, added the cooked noodles, and lots of spices and herbs. Once everything was equally mixed and heated, I stirred in some ricotta, then squeezed some lemon juice in.

Even roommate came out of his room and said, "Damn what are you making? That smells fire!"

I gotta admit, it was pretty tasty.

When a single bag of items from a supermarket now costs as much as $100 depending what gets put in it, you do start questioning whether times past were better. For all the 'improvements' that science and technology make to our lives, one thing they can't do is force costs of things lower purely by virtue of the use of that science and technology.

Forcing costs lower would require a full reboot of the global financial system.

I'm aware of the push for a Great Reset, but that is not about universal equality but further instilling the bulk of wealth in the elite ruling class, getting rid of the middle class, and forcing everyone who isn't able to become elite to stay in the impoverished lower class with an almost impossible route upward.

Necessity is the mother of invention! True I get a buzz from making something out of nothing.
I go to the food bank each week, and the leftovers from other people seem more than adequate.
