I heard a linguist talking about this recently and arguing that emojis are a legitimate and useful expansion of language. I agree. Among other things they can help to give some sense of the tone of what you are trying to say. Sorry old man 😜

@ThePatientAnarchist I agree to some extent. Like profanity, emojiis have their place and can add to the message a lot, but over or misused , they do not.

I used to hate emojis and went out of my way to avoid them. But then unconsciously I realise that they were very useful in keeping a short message short. They serve as establishing a tone of voice (in a limited way) and enable fewer words to convey a meaning. I hope I don't overuse them these days, I am a bit fond of them. I wish there was a greater choice on the response emoji at the end of each posting.

@FreddieUK I agree, they set the tone. For example if you are being ironic, occasionally people don't realize unless you accompany it with a silly emojiii

A very first world problem. (intended jokingly)
Have my preferences, try not to let them have too much space between me and communicating with folk here. Aside from work, this is at times my sole interaction with other humans. Far more concerned with making some connection and the intended content than the symbols chosen to convey it, assuming its intelligible.
Type it how you feel and send it.

I find when someone gets triggered, they overuse the laughing emojii in an attempt to look like they are not bohered and are mocking you. However, to me, it looks like over compensation bordering on hysterical laughing
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@JimboSaturn I don’t even think of terms of whether someone is triggered or not.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@BillyMack I was just saying one instance, yes I know what you mean by the overuse though.
Matt85 · 36-40, M
