Should you save a dying stranger if you know they eat MEAT?

Oxford philosopher controversially argues that it's ethical to let them die

Letting meat eaters drown is ethical because of the suffering they cause to animals, an Oxford University academic has controversially argued.

Dr Michael Plant, a philosopher focusing on happiness, who eats meat himself, claims that, according to some moral philosophies, it can be justifiable to let people like himself die.

His argument stems from a conflict of what he says are two commonly held beliefs.

The first is human beings have a duty to rescue each other when doing so comes at a trivial cost. For example, jumping into a pond to save a drowning child but ruining your clothes in the process.

The second belief, Dr Plant claims, is it is wrong to eat meat because of the suffering animals can experience in factory farms.

Dr Plant has previously described himself as a 'welfatarian' - someone who eats animals only if the creature has experienced a happy life prior to their death.

He does not specifically address in his article if welfatarians should be saved in life-or-death situations.

Dr, Plant is also a certified douche bag.

So if he sees someone drowning, is he going to ask the person if they are a vegetarian before helping them? What a freak!
In some places, a person can be arrested for refusing to help someone in danger. It's just the normal, human thing to do.
@AbbeyRhode Yes, and while youre contemplating saving anyone @badminton (Karen) will whine about Jan 6 bc that always has something to do with every issue.
Some people are totally stupid. This guy is nearing the top of that list!

And I say…EAT ME(AT)!!

What an A hole! Would he expect to be saved or planted?

I agree with him... I'd definitely let him drown.

this is the mentality of militant radical Vegans. They value animal lives over human lives. They’ll threaten people if they stop being Vegans because the diet is not supporting their health. It happened to a sister who had tried to be a Vegan for a few months and mentioned it on Facebook and then announced she needed to include meat in her diet. It happened to restaurant owners who had a very popular Vegan restaurant on the West coast when the owners decided they needed quality protein in their diets.

Another liberal soyboy who's brain has shrank from lack of quality protein/minerals

I know of someone who'd like to Plant his foot right in the Dr's ass.

Vegans are stupid. They won't even eat eggs. If anything could be considered a protein freebie it's definitely eggs. Make sure the hens are healthy and happy we get better eggs, it's an easy win/win. Nothing suffers and it's healthy food.🤷‍♂️

On another note, it's wrong to eat eggs but OK to kill babies?🤦‍♂️ Absolutely stupid!

so when can we just kill all the vegans?

after all, blood makes great fertilizer... they'd be doing the world a favor... 🤔
@wildbill83 Theyre eating the animals food suplly so, per him, we must actually.
So more food for the rest of us. Ok and lights his grill.

Wait, dont tree lives matter too?

Do you think because some obscure academic makes these statements it will change anything? Very unlikely. College professors have very little influence on society. This really not anything to worry about.

Now treasonous insurrectionists attacking our Capital on Jan. 6th, attempts to kidnap or kill politicians, attempt to subvert fair elections, THAT is something to be concerned about.
@badminton Only one killed on 6 Jan. Was Ashley Babbit and the rogue cop who killed her has not been held accountable.

Do not be naive regarding the effect college professors can have on their students. And you are wrong on that. College professors DO have influence on students.

@badminton
Very unlikely. College professors have very little influence on society.

Well, there's the thousands of students that had to agree with the indoctrination to graduate that might have some influence.
@badminton Since this post was about meat eating and a professor that is violently against it, you felt you needed to go completely off topic and show your mental illness by bringing something that has zero to do with the subject?

Get help, youre clearly off your meds.

So what would he say to the totally carnivorous animals? What would he do if they were starving?

Nature goes not only two ways yet many ways. Many creatures are even cannibalistic. Should they eliminate themselves as well?

Nature changes according to the needs. It's not stagnant.

As to change itself it abhors a stasis as much as nature abhores as vacuum.

Who are any to judge whether nature is wrong.

Better to ask just how nature feels about what us humans are doing to the planet than how nuture intended to sustain ourselves.
People of this ilk used to be charged with crimes of conspiracy, for thier actions. This professor is obviously not of intelligence.
Welfatarian is novel to me though Not interesting at all.
