I know most people in america are used to it, but don't you feel weird tipping?

I have never understood a situation where the business owner can reduce their risk by underpaying staff and getting the customer to pay.

It seems to be anti-capitalist.

In fact, it seems to be socialism to rely on the community to pay some of your staff's wage.

@Zeusdelight it would be socialism if it was all equally paid, i think the socialist aspect is when its a tip jar thats shared among all staff, so like shared pot separated at the end of then fight for all

@popmol I suppose my point is that the businesses rely on society to provide part of the wages directly to their employees.

@Zeusdelight well it was made that way over time and its e xtremely odd but ingrained to you people

Actually, if they included the wages of all staff in the pricing of the menu, the appetizer menu would start at $20.00 and everything else would go up from there. No one would ever go out to eat at those prices and the industry would die.

@calicuz in europe it doesn't die out and theres no tip, actually over most of the planet besides the americas it works out.

@popmol

Because everywhere else in the world businesses pay livable wages and housing and essentials are actually affordable. "Corporate America" is a thorn in America's side.

@calicuz thats what i mean, your tipping is normal in a fucked up dystopian place and everyone saying but it pays their wages to us it sounds if your slaves don't act happy and go beyond their job description just to service you they get nothing!
