I know most people in america are used to it, but don't you feel weird tipping?

@popmol I tip at a sit down restaurant
all the time. I tip my hair dresser too.

@iamonfire696 really? it gets odder and odder!
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@popmol yes, they are providing a service so why not
popmol · 22-25, M
@iamonfire696 they should just get a wage that is enough
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@popmol they get paid minimum wage here at least. At a restaurant that’s nicer there is a tip pool. A percent of a server’s sales get put into the tip pool for other staff whether they get tips or not. Other staff being Expediters (bring food to table), Chef/cook, hostess, dishwasher, etc.

Do you think servers should pay into the tip pool for other staff and not get tips?

Typically tip pool is 3-4% of sales. So if a server has sales on their shift of $1000 they have to put in $40 to the tip pool for the other staff.

So if the servers didn’t get any tips on their shift they would have to pay $40 of their own money to go into the tip pool.

Tipping here is typically 15 to 20% of your bill total. So let’s just say the server earned 15% tips on that $1000 of sales.

That means they earned $150 in tips that night but since they have to pay 4% of their sales to the tip pool which was $40 they come out of the evening with making $110 in tips.

Do you understand why tipping is important here?

@iamonfire696 the tip pool makes it better but still is kinda weird.

i jsut think the boss should you know, pay their staff a full wage.

well yeah tipping is important in the flawed system.

tipping is a problem but just removing it won't just fix it xD

its just weird, like the only job of a server is, moving plates from kitchen and table to each other, and take the order for food.
but from what i've seen in america its almost like they are trying to get buddy buddy together! servers must act like a playful big sister to kids, a willing listen to adult and the slightest disinterest or dissatisfaction might make it so you don't tip or tip well.

its like slavery where people say you have the option of not doing it but that's like giving up your only option. like you don't need to balance the rope but if you fall theres a giant pit beneath you!

also it shows clear favouritism. in which case the shared tipping is good but its not done in most places to my knowledge.

also its mostly done by those at the bottom of the social ladder or those who can't protect them, its like a legal hookery business.

also i hear people say i don't tip if they are like on their phone and putting in bad orders and i'm like well in that case they should be fired!
not keep on some barely working person.

@popmol They are being a full wage here though.

Shared tipping is done in most restaurants here.
