My grandma makes the best lentil curry. She passed away when I was 7 and I had a vague memory of her. But one thing is vivid - the smell and taste of her lentil curry. I'm trying my best to get the same taste, but it feels like it lacks an ingredient.. or two. Maybe it's the cooking from her own hands.
Love it, My mother has been gone since March 2003. She was a fantastic cook. When ever I cook a holiday dinner or a big dinner, I feel like I have a special connection with her. I never match how well she cooked everything but I keep trying and enjoy the connection I have with her.

I know from experience, that some generations of good cooks would pass down recipes to friends etc, but they would deliberately leave out an ingredient or quantity so it's just not the same. Some are very protective of their work.
