I Enjoy Food and Cooking

Yesterday, I made some Iranian-style ice cream, flavored with saffron and rose water. It was beyond amazing. The flavor was superb, and the fragrance tickled the nose with every bite. I just wish our ice cream maker wasn't so small so I could have made a bigger batch.

Rose water is one of my favourite ingredients in cooking. I just need to learn to be subtle with it. I make ice cream too, but have never thought about saffron and rose water. I should try this.

This is the recipe I used, with two minor changes: I used pink himalayan salt instead of kosher salt, and I didn't use any dried roses because, seriously, I don't have that kind of money.

@OggggO: Thank you! I should give that a go. I've not yet made the custard-style ice creams (with eggs) but I keep meaning to, because my mum made it that way and it tasted amazing.

@GlassDog: Also, although it says to use a fine mesh strainer, I tried using a strainer bag, and it was too fine, and I lost a lot of good custard that clung to the bag instead of pouring through. Definitely use a wire strainer, or you'll end up with a big mess and a lot of lost food.

You'll just have to make several small batches...LOL

I've never tasted saffron.

@Tastyfrzz: It's really tasty. Kind of a warm, savory flavor.
