What about the crab-less crab cake recipe above that? What kind of cookbook is this??!!

@jessica0 My mother made that. We couldn’t afford crab. When I finally tasted crab cakes, I realized just how un-crab-cake-like it was.

In my study of Latin, I found excerpts from a first-century cookbook. In one recipe, the author presents a way to cook faux fish: fry chopped liver in fish oil, and form it into the shape of a fish!
I bet those fake crab cakes are sounding pretty good now!

@DrWatson My Mom was a good woman, loving and kind and supporting. She wasn’t a good cook.
In fact, my brother told me he never realized how bad it was until he enlisted and got to eat at the chow hall.
I took my late husband to Mom’s for a weekend to introduce them. Mom announced she knew how much I liked potato and macaroni salad and had made both. But she was out of potatoes and used canned. She had no celery and substituted celery seed. It was edible and we ate it. But when Mom said she’d best get busy on supper, my husband said we didn’t want her chained to the kitchen and she would be taken out for dinner. And breakfast. And lunch.
I don’t think she had taste buds.

Her: Hey, honey, we really need supplies. Can you ride Cameron the camel through the dunes and bring back almost anything?
Him: I could, if you hadn’t insisted on COOKING Cameron last week.

That's certainly going to need freezing afterwards so it will last me the week.

I don't believe I've ever made a stuffed camel. I don't think I'd ever have the opportunity to make a stuffed camel.
