Was watching an Australian cooking show, and was surprised when the audience applauded when the chef made meringue

Australians are a weird lot, aren’t they? They probably hate meringue due to the Pavlova fruit dessert dish. I have never made it but would probably love it. We made Baked Alaska in home ec and it is covered with meringue. Everyone loved it. My aunt would make all kinds of meringue pies and they were delicious. I also made those.
