you notice that is is speckled VERY liberally with black specks, and slightly LONGER black specks that look suspiciously like...mouse turds. He has made squash for you before, and previous batches NEVER contained black specks.

What do you do?

Ewwww

This got me thinking about black spots in oatmeal so I asked asked chatGPT about rat turds. Here's the unacceptable answer.

The FDA has established guidelines regarding the presence of unavoidable contaminants in food products, including oatmeal. According to these guidelines, the acceptable limit for rodent filth in grains, such as oatmeal, is an average of 1 rodent hair or 1 rodent excrement pellet per 100 grams of the product. However, the presence of a small number of rodent droppings is considered unavoidable in food manufacturing.

It's essential to note that these limits are set to ensure food safety while recognizing that complete elimination of such contaminants is practically impossible.

YEAH my favorite cereal. Oh what to do?

@Gibbon I've know about the FDA guidelines for many years. My former father-in-law used to work for Revere sugar...where they actually have a mountain of unpackaged sugar out in the open in a warehouse. There are a LOT of rat droppings in sugar.

I KNOW he puts dark brown sugar into the squash when he makes it...and I am wondering if mice got into his sugar...and he doesn't SEE very well these days.
