What is the best dish/way to transport mashed potatoes to another location to make sure they stay warm and not get cold and hard?

I want to try to make some for Thanksgiving, but I've never done this before. How do I make sure they stay warm after they're finished cooking?

Wrap a lot tinfoil around the parcelin pot.

If you don't have a bowl with a lid use foil or plastic wrap. But I wouldn't transport them personally. I'd bring everything and make them wherever your having Thanksgiving.

@Spoiledbrat Hmm. Can't do that.

I can find a bowl with a lid. Is there a material like porcelain vs glass that retains it's heat better?

Don't want to use cast iron dutch oven, because cast iron needs to be cleaned and seasoned promptly.

After you've prepared them, you can put them in a crock pot that has been pre heated on low, OR keep them in a long low heated clay casserole dish with a clay cover. Clay stays warm during transport.
A bowl with a lid or just make it there. Wait until everything is nearly done and then put them on.

@Spoiledbrat Yeah. I guess that's the best option. I didn't know how long it took for mashed potatoes to get hard.

Do you know from experience?
@perceptivei I've never made them and transported them anywhere but they don't get hard right away. I've left them on my stove for probably at least an hour. They might get cold.
Wrapped in double tin foil, inside a woolen tube sock. Fits compactly in a jacket pocket.
Stays warm for hours.

@SethGreene531 hehehe. Thanks! 😁
@perceptivei 😁 Bon appetit!
I would just reheat the mashed potatoes on a stove top when you get there and whip it up with a little milk or cream to add some moisture back into it

you put the mash potato pot on top of another larger pot filled with hot water and close the lit

I would wrap it up in a couple of thick bath towels, helps to insulate it. Used to do this for potlucks.
I read this in Martha Stewart's voice

Just make arrangements with the host to boil the potatoes and then mash them there . Thats the easiest way to have them fresh and hot .

A heavy pot with a lid, use a heavy coat to keep it warm, or a cooler
How far will you be traveling?

You may not be able to get these in your country.

I have 6 of the 1500 ml bowl as the company gave them to me to try & comment
