So I would recommend you cook it in neither, but use a neutral oil like canola or peanut or vegetable oil because it doesn't burn. Use butter at the -end- of cooking.
Season the steak heavily and let it sit at room temperature for a half hour.
Cook the steak on a high heat in a hot pan for 5 then 4 minutes a side. (medium rare)
In the last minute, put in a big knob of butter and a smashed clove of garlic, and then spoon the butter over the steak.

Bit of both. Butter on its own will burn, but it adds a lovely flavour x

I come a bit late to this - steak doesn't need extra oil: best cooked either on a smoking ridged griddle pan or under the grill on a trivet.

pan fry with olive oil. If you have a nonstick pan you don't need either. Cook at a low to medium heat
