The basic biscuit

I’ve done my fair share of baking but never went to biscuits but tried making some
this morning.

Homemade biscuits is an art. I need to drag out a recipe and make some again. Been too long
@JohnnyNoir I was reminded of the adage as I prepared the dough... cooking is an art, baking is a science.

@soar2newhighs baking is one thing I really don’t try much of. I love cooking but baking intimidates me
@JohnnyNoir I know. Baking does test your kitchen skills. I enjoy cooking too.

@soar2newhighs I make a mess cooking simple things. I’m sure baking would be a lot worse

@soar2newhighs I know,
flour?
Corn flour?
Lard?
Butter?
mix by hand?
Mix with machine?
Drop biscuit?
Or, the layered kind [that I want to make]?

Is grandmother available to help?

I always end up going back to Pillsbury in those exploding cans.
@Budwick I go to good wishes for various hints etc., and if you go to “Chef John’s buttermilk biscuit recipe” you’ll find it easy to follow.

@soar2newhighs I LOVE Chef John!
Seriously - I see his stuff on Allrecipes.com

I will check it out - thanks.

OK - I'm gonna try that this weekend.
Thanks again.
MMMmm, maybe with sausage gravy!
@JohnnyNoir you gotta try the most basic biscuit/scone recipe of all :

Lemonade scones .
It's SR flour
cream and
lemonade...
Mostly mix, then bake...
. Works everytime. 😊
@Budwick I followed his oven made baby back spare ribs recipe/,preparation.They came out great. Definitely a video for those who like spare ribs even in the winter. You’re welcome. Hope it helps.

It can't hurt!
[I'll have some Pillsbury for back up]

@OogieBoogie I sometimes make simple drop biscuits using only baking mix and milk. I prefer better ones though
@JohnnyNoir I think the secret to making thinks fluffy and rise is speed.

As soon as the wet ingredients meet the dry, the chemical reaction starts.

I screw around with a lot of recipes, some are just so damn complex.
I simplify them into the above theory.

I hate spending soooo long, with the fiddly mixing and adding - it wrecks the outcome.

Cooking should be fun and bring results.
Not end up making composr food 😏
JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
@OogieBoogie when all else fails, buy frozen biscuits, especially if you’re going to cover them with gravy
@JohnnyNoir I don't think we have them out here.

I mean it's only been in the last Decade or so, we got that cookie dough in a can.

You guys have such a bigger selection on stuff like that.
JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
@OogieBoogie what? That’s living like a savage!
@JohnnyNoir 😂... Hey!, I'm not the one eating biscuits and gravy, colonial wild West 'cuisine' 😜
JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
@OogieBoogie but I do hunt down the squirrels I fry up for the gravy
@JohnnyNoir😂 I'm trying to Imagibe the ammount of meat on a squirrel 🤔
JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
@OogieBoogie enough for 2 biscuits!
