I Love to Cook -

Experimental Dirty Rice Variant... Tonight's dinner success is very simple to make...

1 red bell pepper - diced
2 green onions - sliced thin
3 stalks of celery - sliced thin
1/2 red onion - diced
1 roma tomato - diced fine
5 cloves of garlic - sliced thin
1/2 pound hamburger
1/2 pound sage sausage
2 ounces chorizo
16 ounces chicken broth
1 cup wild brown rice
*1/2 teaspoon white pepper
*1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
*1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary - crumbled
*1 teaspoon parsley flakes
*1 teaspoon italian seasoning
*1/4 teaspoon seasoning salt
(* approximate to taste)

In a large pot add in the rice, chicken broth, celery, garlic and half the bell pepper. Cover and heat to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Add in all seasoning and the green onion and replace cover. Cook until all liquid in absorbed, stirring once or twice.

While the rice is cooking, in a large frying pan add the hamburger, sausage, chorizo, red onion and tomato. Cook over high heat until the meats are browned. Drain and set aside.

Once the rice is done, combine everything into the large pot and mix well.

Serves 2-4 people, depending on your appetites.

This turned out better than I had hoped! It has a bit of a kick to it, but not overwhelmingly so. Overall, I am Jack's happy stomach ;-) lol

(side note...I haven't actually used measuring spoons in years and tend to add seasonings with educated guess so these measurments are prolly a lil off from the values given. Still, I think I got them about right here.)
