Unexpected Company for Breakfast
Had a blood draw and an appointment this morning and decided to treat myself to breakfast.
Was seated at a table next to a Mom and two boys under ~ 5 yrs old. She was on /off the phone a couple times, visibly flustered .. and the older boy was being a handful. Up and down from his seat, fidgeting around playing with his Hot Wheels car, not listening to his mom even a little.
After a couple more times of being asked to sit down, he finally did. In his distracted state .. he sat in the open chair at my table. His head snapped around when I asked how he was doing this morning. His mom was very apologetic. I told her it was ok and that her boys reminded me a lot of mine at that age.
Once he got over the initial shock, he told me his name and I told him mine. He showed me his car and told me why it was his favorite one. When he asked why I was eating alone, I told him my sons were both grown up and live far away. His Mom looked mortified and apologized again, despite my assurances it was okay.
Their food arrived and he went back to his own seat. His pancakes had his full attention after that, but he said goodbye as I was leaving.
Best breakfast out alone in months.
