I am being asked to bake a baby shower cake but I am not sure what to charge her. She also wanted a dozen sweet empanadas, half strawberry and have blueberry. The empanadas won’t be too difficult, it’s the cake that requires a lot of decoration. She wants a fondant teddy bear on top that I will have to hand craft, along with stars and cloud cutouts. The cost of items and ingredients I’ll need to make the cake totaled to $70-90 depending on what brand I get. How much would you pay for a double tier baby shower cake with a dozen sweet empanadas?
okay what i would do is go around to local bake shops and show them the picture and ask how much they would charge to make it. pretend you're a customer though. that way you can get an idea of the prices in your area
@Jenny1234 I mean it is a pretty big deal cake wise so ... maybe...LOL Yeah that is crazy. BUT .. I think Betty Crocker is a wonderful cake. LOL I think the way it's done is the material x 3 should cover your wage to do it plus profit.
Charge her the price of the supplies + $ per hour of your time to make and deliver it
Personally i don't buy cakes like that cause i don't like the taste of fondant but other people pay 200$ for a cake like that . Plus you are making empanadas.. so that's extra..
Make sure she is ok with the price before you bother ..
I used to make two of these for a church back sale every year. 11 layers. Coconut. Weighed a lot! At least ten pounds each. Served about thirty. I think they made $150.00 off of each one.
I think professionals have a formula. Ingredients cost+ hourly rate + size of cake+ etc. Lol idk. My bday cake was $80 but it was only 6in. Yours seems huge. $300 sounds fair.

Depending on the products they used to bake it. Is there REAL butter and REAL eggs...so that it tastes good. I would pay $50 for that one tho
My girlfriend makes cakes and sells them. She would sell a cake like the one in the picture for $90 cad. She is really good at it and gets alot of business and her cakes are to die for
