Did anyone else's mom broil the crap out of steaks when you were growing up?

Always new york strips marinated in Italian dressing seasoned with mrs.dash afterwards and broiled to death. They were always kinda grey/brown but we ate the crap out of them because that's what was for dinner and there was nothing else.

The only thing "rare" is how often I eat red meat, but when I do, hamburgers or steaks, I prefer them well-done.

@bijouxbroussard A "black" thing? (Though my Dad was the same way re well-done meats.) I remember Laila Ali being a guest chef on a cooking show and cooking a steak and being told she over-cooked it and replying that that's how Black people liked it. Cultural thing?
@ChipmunkErnie I suppose so. It’s the way I always had it cooked at home—but well-done can be cooked so that it’s still tender. My best friend likes her steak rare, and I remember her brothers teasing her that she ate steak "the way white people prepare it". 🤭

@bijouxbroussard I like them medium or even rare now, but growing up my Dad always had to have meat well-done. Even if he ordered a filet mignon at a restaurant, he'd ask for it toe be "butterflied" so it cooked all the way through. I'm not sure, but I think it might have been his Jewish upbringing?
