Have you Ever Had This Happen to you?

i bought a carton of chicken stock at the store to make a new recipe. I picked up the stock and the carton had been opened. In other words, someone had opened it in the store and put it back on the shelf. I didn't even think to check the seal and it was not that light to notice.

Are people nuts?

No but I've seen people opening cartons in shops, dipping their finger in, tasting then putting it back, or taking a swig from a carton of juice. Let's just say they're not locals who are doing this, it's obviously acceptable in some countries but not in the UK.

@akindheart Always check the seal, it's become a habit for me
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@RodneyTrotter1 Oh I can believe that. I saw a woman opening up a bottle of liquid makeup and testing it on the back of her hand to see if it matched and then put the lid back on and put it back on the shelf. Who wants to buy that? Could be contaminated with germs. And I’ve seen a young college-aged girl opening up several bottles of spices and sticking her nose down to them and sniffing each one. Yuck. She wasn’t buying, just sniffing them.

@cherokeepatti They should be made to buy them if caught or be prosecuted for theft.

Yes, I have had that happen a few times. Twice with coffee creamer, so I always check to see if the seal is broken on that product.

Those cardboard cartons of stocks look like they’ve been opened when you take the top off. I really don’t like the way they’ve done that. They should put some kind of seal over the opening and under the lid.
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
People do that in supermarkets all the time. They think that's their home without any respect or consideration for others.
akindheart · 70-79, F
@Barefooter25 i took the carton back. this didn't havea pull ring, it was foil. the store gave me the money back with no problem..what a shame.
idontcareok · 70-79, M
sorry, I wanted to taste it before buying it, I i bought another brand
akindheart · 70-79, F
@idontcareok yep...or they wanted a salt fix
Justme264 · 70-79, M
Yes and some of them are I think - unless they are homeless and hungry
akindheart · 70-79, F
@Justme264 you know that could be but chicken stock? i was making a recipe and i had to open up a can of chicken noodle soup to get the stock
This probably explains why food packages are more and more difficult to initially open. Pulling the seal from some products requires carpenter tools :)
ArtieKat · M
@Heartlander I found that with bleach earlier today
akindheart · 70-79, F
@ArtieKat even Costco milk has a seal. the jug is meant to tip for Arthritis patients but you can't get the seal off. this stock had a twist top and a foil seal. both broken
@akindheart Some seals require a knife point to first puncture the seal to expose something to grab hold of to remove the seal. This brings up the need for a new kitchen tool: kitchen pliers.

Right? You can get real sick from that.
akindheart · 70-79, F
@Livingwell for sure. i was in the middle of making a recipe. i had to open a can of chicken noodle soup to get the stock from that to finish

This is a thing people do on purpose
