Had the opposite experience this WE .. was served a med rare burger. It looked like they just showed it to the grill instead of cooking it on it.
@BrandNewMan If they had served that burger to an undercover shopper, both the server and cook would be fired on the spot, read my own comment. Yes, the server, they're trained alongside cooks on how to test for doneness by using the flat of a butter knife for "squishiness", the more squishy the burger, and juices run red, it's too undercooked, it must not sqush, and stop laughing.

@NativePortlander1970 My guess is the cook grabbed the wrong patty from the grill .. they were hella busy and everybody else's food was spot on.
@BrandNewMan That never happens, cooks are trained to check for doneness with every order. The next time you order a burger from a casual/diner, look for the notch on the edge of it, not only are we supposed to test squishyness with the tip of our finger, it's supposed to resist, but we cut a barely noticable notch on the edge of the burger to see if the juices still run red or clear, most servers don't know that trick.

@BrandNewMan That may be a violation of most food codes. Hopefully they corrected the situation.
@Heartlander It usually is, burgers must be cooked to a well done 165F, unless, in most states, a waiver is signed acknowledging food borne illnesses associated with certain undercooked foods.
