What do you DISlike about restaurants in your home town? ..

.. or anywhere! .. Apart from issues around tipping, the big restaurant annoyance for me is the amount of hard interior surfacing that boosts the noise level. Sometimes I poke my head in the door and decide 'No thanks'; Or I'll leave without ordering, after sitting for a couple of uncomfortable minutes. My favorites are the few where MW and I can still enjoy a quiet meal together.

I have hearing issues, so I avoid noisy restaurants. I can't avoid the really cold ones. Even in our 100 degree heat, I wear slacks and a long sleeve shirt when I go out for dinner. Sometimes I need another layer. Even some of the wait staff complain about the chill in one place.

@exexec Hearing issues - yes. I can no longer bear the sound levels at concerts, movies etc; but who has the real hearing issues - is it me or the people who need that much volume?

@ffony My hearing was ruined when I worked in a sawmill and textile mill as a teen and young man with little or no hearing protection. If there is a lot of background noise, I cannot hear normal conversation at a table.

@exexec I wouldn't say my hearing is 'ruined'; but I recognize the difficulty you have, separating conversation from back ground noise. It can even be tough to isolate the voice of the person I'm talking to from others just chatting.
