The age of AARP consumers

We are tired of being asked for ID in restaurants. This is nothing short of harassment, and is very insulting. Any server that can not tell the difference between any one 21 and under compared to 55 and over is in the wrong business.
I do hear by declair we start telling servers if i have to show my ID you forfit your tip money.
Repost on fake book and other social media. We could quickly put a stop to this practice.

I'm just glad they have a job

It's not the servers. It's the establishment. And they are concerned over subjective decisions because so many of the servers/bartenders don't pay attention when it's a close call. So they demand 100% ID check to avoid getting in hot water with the law. Can you blame them? They could get shut down.

Basically, I see it as we now live in a dumbed down version of life.

I just realized that when I responded for the first time, I read this post too hastily and thought you were talking about being old enough for the senior discount!. Sorry.

Yes, I do sometimes get IDed in liquor stores where it is the policy to ID everyone.

Having known people who have worked in places like that, I think I understand why they do it. If it is "up to the discretion" of the cashier to check ID's, then there will always be arguments about alleged discrimination and profiling, and those can get very unpleasant. So a draconian policy of checking everyone is a way to avoid all of that.

And speaking for myself, I really don't mind showing an ID.

@DrWatson My mom refuses to show ID. She usually does not carry her license around since I am the one driving.
If they don’t believe I’m this old and they demand to see ID, I’m taking it as a compliment.

@YourMomsSecretCrush If I don't get offered the "senior discount", I feel complimented as well.

Soome people look old for their age 🤷‍♀️
ArtieKat · M
@Lilymoon And some of us are always getting complimented that we look 10-15 years younger than our real age! 😸
Confined · 56-60, M
@ArtieKat I dont fall for the lies.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I have never seen a server ask to see a senior ID. In fact, I have experienced servers giving us the discount without our even asking for it.
Poppies · 61-69, F
@DrWatson my husband and I have been asked many times in certain chain restaurants where it has been iron-clad corporate policy that all are asked. Hub has argued with the server, argued with the manager, made a scene and refused to ever return to the restaurant. The poor server is in the middle; her job is on the line and she has no control over the corporate policy.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@Poppies I certainly would never be mad at the server.
Poppies · 61-69, F
@DrWatson Hub figures he needs to make his point to make the message clear that he is not okay with living in a "police state" where 80-year-old men are expected to show an ID to have a beer
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I want the discount
Confined · 56-60, M
I think its time we blsst all these restaurants and put them on notice they will loose big money if they keep this up.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Maybe they should not allow an aarp discount without a valid photo ID
Domking · 61-69, M
This is just a ploy to log the identities, and a part of the corporate spying on citizens.
Convivial · 26-30, F
