I Want To Make This Today….Red Lentil Tofu..

I bought a 25-pound bag of red lentils at Winco. This recipe is easy and I want to try it. Takes water, red lentils & salt to make the basic red lentil tofu. Can be marinated after it’s made with a variety of marinades and browned and served.

Looks VERY healthy!!! I love firm tofu. With black bean garlic sauce and green onions!

@4meAndyou I will try to make it a firm tofu. Need to use less water after they are soaked & drained when blending. The recipe seems simple & easy. And let it firm up in the refrigerator overnight before cutting into squares. I got soybeans one time and made soy tofu. The recipe said to stir the soy milk with lemon juice and to stir very slowly if you want firm tofu. I did that but apparently not slow enough and got very soft tofu. So I made some brown rice, chopped green onions & cooked them in some olive oil and heated the rice with them and added the tofu. What I got tasted exactly like scrambled eggs with green onions. That soy milk is so sticky I spent more time scouring my pans & blender than I did actually cooking the tofu etc.

@4meAndyou One good thing about red lentils is that they won’t be sticky. I have made flatbreads with red lentils and they don’t stick to the pan, you can stack them up and cover & refrigerate and they don’t stick to themselves either.

@4meAndyou I need to avoid wheat and gluten so I will do it. Plus I am retired. It costs a lot of money to buy gluten-free products but you can make them for so much less with a little creativity. I bought that 25 pound bag of lentils and was thinking how to store them after I opened the bag. I saved white vinegar gallon jugs after they were empty and had them in my garage. Took 4 of them and made a funnel out of heavy paper (a campaign flyer I got in the mail) and poured the lentils into the jugs. 25 pounds was about 3 & 1/2 gallons, easy to store that way and to use just pour the amount I need.

@cherokeepatti VERY creative!!! When I had so much trouble with milk products, I bought lots of big plastic jugs of coffee creamer...(used to use it in my chowder). NOW I save the jugs and store mashed potato flakes, (sometimes the cardboard boxes can't be resealed once you open them), white rice, brown rice, rotini, and elbow macaroni.

@4meAndyou I have a lot of Folger’s coffee cans, the plastic ones. I thought about using those. But thought it would be better to use clear jugs so I could see what was being stored inside of them. I might put some rice in the other jugs.

@cherokeepatti I relabel my coffee creamer jugs with permanent magic marker. I tried to remove the label from one of them and the adhesive will NOT come off!!! So now, up above the label area, I just mark what is in there.

@4meAndyou Orange oil will probably take the labels off. I use a can of orange fragrance spray I get at Walmart for such things & it kills ants and spiders too. Sprays a fine mist so it goes pretty far.
