I simmered chicken bones for 26 hours to make a rich broth. During the last hour of simmering, I made egg noodles.

Have or would you go through that much trouble to make a pot of chicken noodle soup?

I have wanted chicken broth since i got sick. I couldnt make it but yours sounds great. I wonder if you can make it and freeze it?

Yes. I freeze it in ice cube trays.

Thanks for your reply.

@Azlotto thank you! That would make a handy soup when sick.

Oh yes. I definitely have gone to that much trouble. I was a bit more ignorant then, and didn't use organic chicken, so who knows what was in the broth at the end...but I do recall that some of the bones and cartiledge were almost dissolved, and when refrigerated the broth turned to jelly. As I recall, I would simmer the bones with a bouquet garni and lots of veggies, which I would later discard. Then I would add new veggies for the soup when all was strained and done.

PS. My grandmother taught me how to make egg noodles.

@4meAndyou I'm glad to hear that some people still cook and make real food.

I have very slowly cooked tomato soup all day. Sometimes it’s worth it, even just for the smell 😍
Azlotto · M
@Starsandfire Any tomato based soup smells delicious.

Thanks for your reply.

@SW-User Indeed.

@submissivelittlewoman Thanks for your reply.
Not a full 24 hours, no.
But I do like a good chicken noodle soup. In fact, I’ve spent all afternoon maki g chicken stock for this very purpose.
Azlotto · M
@nonsensiclesnail I'm glad that people like you/we know how to cook...I feel sorry for those that think food comes from drive-through windows.

Thanks for your reply.
@Azlotto you’re very sweet!!

@nonsensiclesnail

So are you.

It’s getting soup weather soon and I am looking forward to making different kinds of soup…chicken-rice, chicken & dumplings (gluten free), beef-veggie, stew, cinnamon-rice-meatball tomato soup, etc.
Azlotto · M
@cherokeepatti I would make beef bone broth, but beef bones are not sold here...And I'd like to buy some beef fat so I can render some tallow.

Thanks for your reply.

not in the summer so much, but definitely in the winter. Not only chicken carcass, but turkey too and ham bones...on the woodstove all day. The only thing that makes the house smell more like home is bread baking.
Azlotto · M
@goliathtree
home is bread baking.
I agree. Nothing like the smell of baking sourdough bread.

Thanks for your reply.

I did this on Thursday. Took all day and was my first try at it. My wife intervened a couple of times with her expertise. I welcomed her sweetness and spice. The big pot is completely consumed. Much Love ❤️ 😋

No, but my wife does it with turkey bones after Thanksgiving dinner and makes turkey soup.
Azlotto · M
@exexec Awesome! Thanks for your reply.
Skippyskiptic · 41-45, M

Azlotto · M
@Lilymoon Indeed it is.

Have never simmered it that long. Bet it was good. I like to cut up a whole chicken and use the neck, back and wings to make soup or chicken & dumplings. The bones have so much flavor. Used to be able to buy packages of chicken backs and I would make some good soup or dumplings when I found those.
Azlotto · M
@cherokeepatti
Bet it was good

Long process broth is sold by the quart that would be a waste of energy.
Azlotto · M
@Soldonmonday So do I...And home canned.

SteelHands · 61-69, M
@Azlotto
@Soldonmonday

I know that home prepared is tons better. My own parents and ancestors raised us all to appreciate it.

I just don't have the time and money to eat that well.
Azlotto · M
@SteelHands I understand. Peace be with you.
MrAboo · 36-40, M

You're supposed to boil the chicken first then let it sit overnight with some salt n cream. Shhhhhh don't tell anyone I said this. 🙂
Azlotto · M
@Zonuss If you say so. Thanks for your reply. 👍
