hey do y'all think I should visit the hospital?

I think I ate something I'm allergic too. I'm breaking out in hives. I don't want to waste money on medical bills and the doctors says it's nothing to worry about
MellyMel22 · F
You better be kidding. If not, get your *ss to the hospital 🤨

@nightjourney the medical system here is horrible. We got some of the best doctors in the world but people have to pay. Because I'm technically self employed, I don't have access to medical insurance like would if I was working a normal job. It's one of the draw backs. I was thinking about moving to Canada but there's a bill being passed over there that stops content creators from their videos being pushed. So places like YouTube won't pay them. That's my bread and butter.

This has happened multiple times to me. If it's just hives, I take benadryl and it goes away. If you have other symptoms, then you might want to spend the money on a doctor.
empanadas · 31-35, M
@Nadie thank you! Took some benadryl like ten minutes ago. Luckily just hives
Honestly if it’s not spreading, or swelling and your throat isn’t tight. I wouldn’t go. They only gonna give you Benadryl and a steroid cream. You can probably go to Walgreens and the pharmacist can hook you up with some stuff that will clear up the rash.
empanadas · 31-35, M
@SweetNSassy I appreciate it. I got some benadryl. It wasnt spreading just came out of nowhere all in a big spot. I
@empanadas if it doesn’t clear up or gets worse in a couple days I would get it checked out even if it’s just a minute clinic after work. Hope you feel better.

Is your throat fully open? Or does it feel in any way tight, itchy etc? If its just hives on the body, it can be diminished with benadryl, usually a few doses over a couple days. But if your face is tight or throat, go ..Now🌺
empanadas · 31-35, M
@Coralmist I thank you just hives. I should have benadryl.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@empanadas I had purple and red hives all over my body once, from a cold virus of all things. But they told me , when the hives didnt diminish with one dose, that I would need a couple doses a day, for a couple days. But Im not certain if its the SAME with food hives. Id say give your urgent care line a call tonight..ask if you should head in even if throat is not affected🌻

I broke out in hives so bad one time that a doctor had to give me a shot to get rid of them. I had tried everything. Mine came on due to stress in college years ago. Go to the hospital.

Benadryl now.
empanadas · 31-35, M
@Degbeme thanks took it like 4 mins ago.
GunFinger · F
If you're still not at the hospital, go now and get yourself checked. It's important to figure out what is causing the hives. They will give/prescribe necassary medications for you. Take care.
Reject · 26-30, M
I wouldn’t go, but I don’t have people to live for. If you do, then stop messing around and go already.
If its just hives it's not an emergency. If you start not being able to breathe or swallow is when you have an emergency. Take note of what you ate or come into contact with approx 30 mins from your symptoms. Usually this is the culprit.
empanadas · 31-35, M
@Spunkylama thank you, I ate some peanuts which is werid because I never had problems. Luckily it's just hives
@empanadas Okay, so watch yourself. If it gets worse do not hesitate to call 911. I'd suggest avoiding peanuts in all forms in the future. People can develop allergies later in life. You could schedule a regular doctor's appointment for allergy testing to confirm. Please take care.
Viper · M
I don't know enough about allergies, or how allergy you are, to give good advice.

But as others have said, maybe strongly depends on your breathing, and how quick it is to go down or go away.
empanadas · 31-35, M
@Spunkylama thank you!

Unless you are having breathing issues they will treat with Benadryl. I had a reaction to an antibiotic and had hives and I was having a hard time breathing. I called the hospital because I work there and the charge nurse told me to take Benadryl and if that didn’t work to come in. She told me to stop that antibiotic and call my doctor in the morning. It was -45 C that night and was trying to save me a trip to the hospital when it was so cold and the healthcare here is free lol.

I hope you are feeling better. Write down everything you ate, used on your body, anything that’s new to narrow it down.
empanadas · 31-35, M
@iamonfire696 I ate peanuts. Luckily, it wasn't anything serious. Just surpised I never had this reaction to peanuts
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@empanadas Well you can develop an allergy at anytime. I developed a seafood allergy at 18 and that antibiotic I had taken many times before and now I am allergic.

You should probably see an allergist but that will be lots of money without insurance.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Literally everything I'm reading about your situation is making me furious, and I'm not sure who I'm mad at.
SW-User
You probably should see a doctor. I dont want you to waste your money either but I remember being rushed to a doctor once after some kind of reaction.

I never knew what caused it but it began with itching, then my face turned red and my throat closed up
empanadas · 31-35, M
@SW-User ngl I'm kind of worry to fall asleep. It's just hives right now. Did it all happened at once?
SW-User
@empanadas not instant but it was quick enough I suppose. I wanna say it was 5 or 10 minutes from the itching starting, until I was finding it hard to breathe.

Sorry if Im worrying you man. Just want to make sure you're okay
empanadas · 31-35, M
@SW-User no worries man, luckily it's just hives. it's been over 30 mins so I think it won't get worse. Weird because I never had issues with peanuts
