I think cereal tastes better at night because we aren't in a rush like the mornings and we can slow down and enjoy it. And no one eats porridge anymore because it's not the 1600's, silly girl! 😉

Oatmeal is a type of porridge. Since technically porridge can be made from different types of grain, but if it's being made from milled oats, then it's oatmeal. Another popular porridge in the USA is grits. It's most popular in the Southern USA and is made from corn.

"Oats" or Oatmeal may come in many forms from the little over sweet tear packets you pour some water on, to the entirely raw cut oats that take like 20 minutes to cook.
it is all over the map
most in the us dont use the word porridge at all
'Mom is a Brit and she used to make Peas Porridge

@helsbels I eat oatmeal every weekday. It's very healthy, lots of fiber.

Oats and milk essentially. I don't actually know what porridge is, only ever hear about it in movies and such. Kind of a boring meal without cinnamon sugar or something

I am wondering if "porridge" is oatmeal or cream of wheat?
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
I think porridge can be any kind of cooked grain slop whereas oatmeal is just oats.
Teslin · M
I think the taste is a personal preference thing? Just a guess.

I'm pretty sure oatmeal and porridge are the same thing.

Meal, the word, also means crushed grains... Hence squishy oats ;)

For some reason this dude from a religious sect called the Quakers invented and owns all oatmeal.

@Fukfacewillie It was part of the Armistice signed at the end of the Great Grain Wars, which gave oats to the Quaker, rice to Uncle Ben, and shredded wheat...well, no one cared about that, so Nabisco quietly absconded with it.
(It is said that the Frito Bandito took advantage of that War to claim corn chips for himself, but he claims that this is an unfounded and scandalous rumor.)

Man, you just gotta be there. It's just one of those things. I guess it could be akin to porridge. Dont' know if there's oats in it or not, I just know that you can go on a total oatmeal diet and lose loads of weight!
