Fresh mussels collected this morning, prepped with slightly spicy tomato sauce, spices, and served on crusty bread. We call it impepata di cozze (sorry about the beer behind, but unfortunately I'm out of white wine lol).

@Elessar Looks awesome!!! I used to buy mussels here when they were on sale...and I would fill my pot with dry white wine, parmesan cheese, butter and minced garlic, and just steam them for about 3 minutes till opened. I would serve them with a small bowl of the broth for dipping.

As I recall, we always had them with pasta.

@Lostandfound46 Eh, I actually prefer seafood to (terrestrial) meat lol, I guess growing by the sea has shaped me like this 馃憖

Bread is the typical ciabatta, except of course sliced
@Elessar it鈥檚 good for health... I have tired but it鈥檚 not my thing. And I m not high fan of meat 馃槶馃槶 I eat chicken once a month 馃槱馃槱馃槱 Sometime twice 馃槚馃槚馃槚 love ciabatta ... toasted with olive and garlic with avocado mash 馃ぉ馃ぉ馃ぉ馃ぉ heaven

@4meAndyou Here we tend to collect them fresh and cook them on the next day, after leaving them "purge" (expel sand, while alive) in saltwater, or if we buy them (but in general they're pricey, while the sea gives them for free lol), we still make sure they're alive (they're potentially intoxication material if they deteriorate, and that's not always easy to notice 馃檲).

We make a similar recipe for risotto with clams, i.e.

For pasta too but no cheese in the sauce; we add both mussels and clams (and another shell I don't know how to translate, but I guess it's local to the Mediterranean here), and also cherry tomatoes, olive oil, parsley, and I don't remember what else because it's my father the one specialized in seafood, I'm more like the consumer 馃槵

(sorry for the terrible lighting)

@Lostandfound46 Damn, I forgot about meat! :(

But if you love ciabatta (toasted), a generous amount of olive oil, rubbed garlic, oregano and if you have cherry tomatoes, for sure you'll love bruschetta

@Elessar I love bruschetta馃挀 heaven

@Elessar Our beaches here are too polluted to collect mussels, although some people do. I think it is is not always safe...so I used to buy them.
Elessar26-30, M
@4meAndyou Ah damn. I can't say our waters are perfectly clear of pollutants either, especially the Adriatic, being a closed sea (Italians esp. on the opposite coast make memes about it like "found traces of sea in the Adriatic" 馃槄), but we try to collect them away from the rivers and the ship routes at least. Whereas, with bought ones, no one knows where they're from (and we're a primary hub for seafood, so most of the stuff in the market would still come from here).

@Elessar I live near Plymouth harbor. We know the boats in the harbor and the marina add their fuels to the water, and the yacht owner who hasn't peed or pooped while docked would be extremely rare. Our rocks are covered in periwinkle snails and seaweed here. But once I live in Hull, and the residents always dug for clams. They would usually find quahogs...much larger and tougher...but quahogs are good in stuffing. Even so...red tides seemed all too frequent. Caution seems best.
