I am in my native country (the current president might disagree). But two dishes from my parents' neck of the woods would be Jambalaya:

@bijouxbroussard New Orleans, LA? 馃榿 Nope, I was born in Oklahoma and have been in Illinois most of my life. I guess my mom got the recipe from somewhere or someone.

@SubstantialKick I was born and raised in San Francisco, CA, but both my parents are originally from New Orleans. I learned to cook a lot of those dishes from my grandmothers. 馃槉

@bijouxbroussard My mom grew up on the east coast and my dad grew up on the west side of Chicago, but their parents grew up in the in Mississippi and Georgia so my parents mainly grew up on soul food.

Fish and chips.
Get a nice big potato cut it into finger thickness lengths and chuck it into the deep fat fryer. Find yourself a nice fresh skinned and boned haddock, cover it in batter and chuck it on top of the chips. Start to finish approx. 20 minutes depending on how hungry you are.
Serve with sliced lemon and a knife and fork if you're pretending to be posh otherwise just add salt and vinegar and dig right in with your hands. :-)

Born in US but grandparents from both my mother and father's sides have Polish roots and pierogies taste like home.
As I child I watched my mom and gma fight every single time they made them and consequently I do not make them. 馃槅 I get them from the Polish deli or some restaurants.
