Pork fat can smell extremely nasty when it is cooking in a crockpot. A friend of mine used to give me pork necks, and I had to pour apple cider vinegar in with them to kill the horrible smell. Then I poured out the cook water, and put fresh water and more vinegar in there, and the smell finally went away.

Folks who will tell you that pork is unclean get that from the bible. 2000 years ago (or longer), pork made a lot of people sick due to Trichinosis, which is a parasitic disease caused by roundworms often present in undercooked pork. Because of the pain caused by the roundworm larvae spreading through the small intestines, early religions told their adherents that there were demons in the pork, and because of the demons, told their people that pork was unclean. You definitely don't want to eat demons...right? 😂🐷
