This whole "cultural diversity is our strength". Unity is strength. Here are some excerpts from my organizational psych degree:
When those across an organization have shared values, then a unified line of sight can be established where individual employees understand how their daily actions support broader corporate objectives (Ejoh & Amoile, 2024). The culitivation of shared values and common visions help to foster cross-cultural collaboration, reduce inter-departmental politics, and minimize internal friction (Cameron & Quinn, 2011). Organizations anchored by deeply embedded shared values exhibit greater adaptability and resilience during strategic mergers, pivots, or crises (Ejoh & Emoile, 2024).
Top-down micromanagement can become insufficient as as organizations scale and adopt agile or hybrid structures. Shared values provide a cognitive heuristic that guides the decision-making of staff within ambiguous or complex situations where constant managerial authorization may not be possible (Ejoh & Emoile, 2024). Frontline staff whose values intrinsically align with those of their company can more effectively solve customer challenges or operational bottlenecks independently while remaining safely within normative boundaries (Lages et al., 2018).
