Where do the Italians go on holiday?
Most Italians go to the country they consider the best country for a holiday - Italy.
They head for the Adriatic and Mediterranean beaches, some to the lakes, mountains and hills of central Italy.
For the entire month of August the beaches are unbelievably crowded. Towels right next to each other. Umbrellas in rows that go on for a kilometer.
Anyplace with water will be crowded. Every apartment, villa, camping space and hotel is booked for months in advanced. The big cities empty out. Stores close for the month of August. Big sales in July so that merchandise is sold off before the August summer holiday.
In the city I live in here in Lazio. there is no water but there are shade trees and it is quiet and peaceful. So many people from Rome own homes and apartments in Umbria. The towns will fill up for the summer and then empty out again in September.
I will enjoy the quiet of my own garden and pool and not try to go to any beaches or crowded places.
