A Native treat

Now you have some (bannock). Be sure to share it with your friends. I loved this stuff as a kid!

Ingredients

1 cup (margarine)

5–6 cups (flour)

3 tablespoons (baking powder)

2 tablespoons (sugar)

½ teaspoon (salt)

3 cups (milk)

Directions

Preheat oven to 400˚F (205˚C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients. Mix with hands. Add more flour if dough is too sticky.

Roll or spread out dough on a flour-dusted counter. Make sure dough is approximately half an inch thick. Make biscuit shapes with a cup.

Poke top of bannock with the back of a spoon. Bake for 20 minutes or until top begins to brown.

Nada’s Tips & Tricks: With the holiday season soon upon us, you can add dried cranberries or a sprinkle of cinnamon. Use holiday shaped cookie cutters or make a large Bannock and get the kids to decorate it with holiday colours and designs.
