Why don't Australians celebrate Thanksgiving?
Because it doesn't relate to our history. Thanksgiving traces its roots back to the early settlers in the US, who had experienced poor harvests. It was then formalised around the end of the US Civil War.
You've probably noticed from the foregoing that the early settlers in the US didn't turn up in Australia.
Which is probably a Good Thing.
Turkeys and hams are common traditional Christmas foods here, if you're a traditionalist. But when you have no connections to a really big extended family the 'warmth' of that aspect of Christmas is lost.
