The German for Wednesday translates as “midweek”

It’s funny how a people who had similar Gods to the Norse peoples didn’t name their Wednesday as Woden’s day as the Anglo Saxons did. The word Wednesday comes from Woden's day.

The Anglo-Saxons named the days of the week after their gods. The names of the days of the week in Anglo-Saxon are:
Monday: Monandæg, which means "Moon's day"
Tuesday: Tiwesdæg, which means "Tiw's day"
Wednesday: Wodensdæg, which means "Woden's day"
Thursday: Thunresdæg, which means "Thor's day"
Friday: Frigedæg, which means "Frigg's day"
Saturday: Retained its Roman name
Sunday: Sonnandæg, which means "Sun's day"
Explanation
Monday: Named after the Roman moon goddess Luna, who was also known as Mona in Anglo-Saxon lore
Tuesday: Named after Tiw, the Anglo-Saxon god of war and combat
Wednesday: Named after Woden, the Anglo-Saxon god who guided the dead and was associated with war
Thursday: Named after Thor, the Anglo-Saxon god of thunder
Friday: Named after Frigg, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of fertility and love
Saturday: Retained its Roman name
Sunday: Named after the Roman sun god Sol Invictus
