Our 16 year old spent the first two weeks of her hospitality and catering apprenticeship waiting on tables in a big hotel restaurant. As her apprentice's wage is well below the national minimum wage, her colleagues decided that she should keep any tips given to her rather than put them in the communal pot. So on Friday she came home with a full wallet, including a £50 note that I had literally never seen before and which set alarm bells ringing in my head (large cash denominations traditionally being associated with money laundering and other crime). Her supervisor assured me that the note came from the bank rather than a single customer and that my daughter had not been serving Mr Big 😅
I don't often handle cash, so this was the first note I've seen with the image of King Charles III. We also had an interesting discussion about Alan Turing who is depicted on the rear.
As a student, her earnings are still below the income tax threshold, so I think she probably got to take home more than I did last week 🙃

In America waiters in restaurants often get paid under minimum wage because they depend on their tips! 😇😇😇 Because of this I have a habit of paying super high tips which my husband says I'm nuts! 😂😂😂 They say give 15-25% tip but I leave like 40% sometimes usually with mandatory tip by card where I chose 20% and then extra tip by cash! 😆😇😇 In USA waiters often depend on their tips so I like to make their day! 😌😌😌 If it is a young kid (someone in their early 20's) serving us I am extra nice! 😁😁😁 My mom scolds me and my husband David for tipping too high sometimes but restaurant waiters get paid hardly anything because of USA tipping culture! 😭😭😭
Great that her efforts are being rewarded... And as an ex apprentice I do know how hard it can be, but at the same time many valuable skills and attitudes are learnt

Alan Turing was a pioneer computer scientist who also worked as a codebreaker during WW2. He was prosecuted for homosexual acts in 1952 and died from cyanide poisoning in 1954, probably as a result of suicide.
