Taxation - Make it Voluntary

I see taxation as theft and many others see it as the glue of social fabric, a moral imperative. They would also count my view as a very, very small minority so it wouldnt effect revenue too much.

Do you think that if it was made voluntary the champions of tax would still pay?
If paying tax is voluntary, you shouldn’t get any government services. That includes passports, police protection, a driver’s license, etc.

@LeopoldBloom you dont need tax for those things. We pay for our passports and driving licences anyway and we could form local police, that actually work for the community.

There are much better ways to run services than taxation plus you wouldnt be paying for war, bailing out banks, vanity infrastructure projects (see london garden bridge, but lots of examples), handing massive grants to private corporations, death tax, politicians wages and exorbitant "expenses" etc etc

@gol979 you do have a point about politicians salaries lol
@gol979 Got it. So no need for a military, just volunteer citizen's militias. No roads except toll roads. No Social Security, Medicare, or welfare - just let people live off charity or die.

Unlike you libertarians, I actually lived in a country with virtually no taxation and no government services. Most people survived by subsistence farming. If they got sick, they either recovered on their own, or they died. The tiny, ineffective military was chased out of the northern half of the country around a decade ago when al Qaeda decided they wanted the land and just took over with almost no resistance. You may see that as paradise; if so, I invite you to move there.

Two years ago we started fighting a lodging tax here. State Supreme Court ruled it as unconstitutional this week. I get a large chunk of mine back today that's been sitting in a court escrow for the last 18 months.. already those organizations that would be getting my money is crying and asking for donations.. my response is ask the courts for the interest they made

@MarineBob nice one dude, these examples are well needed to show that we can put the brakes on this "legal" taxation octopus

Tax is the rent you pay for living in the country. In theory, the more you pay, the nice the place and the better the location, or you move..Try telling your landlord that rent is voluntary..😷
gol979 · 41-45, M
@whowasthatmaskedman a very good analogy. Why on earth are we paying a minimum of a 5th of our earnings to an imaginary landlord? What a corrupt system
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@gol979 OK. Now we are talking about how good your landlord is and how much of your rent goes into upkeep. Thats a whole different question..😷

well, soon we'll have flying cars so it wont matter so much if the roads crumble.

I think unfortunately more people wouldn't pay than our society would need to support social programs. I think culturally most of us are too selfish.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Starcrossed i dont think that marries up. Look at how much we give to charity (most big charities are troughs). Look at all the generosity despite economic hurt. We dont need taxation to support social programmes.

They do need tax for war, bailing out banks (2008, how many trillions), imaginary infrastructure projects, filtering money from the poorest to the richest.
Why not let the winners take all? Humanity was trying for a better life for everyone - NATO -,stan killed all hope. Just take it all.

Kat Espinda thinks paying her mortage is voluntary.
